Alfred Newton, founder of MMD Home, taught music and drama at the International School of Beijing from 1992 – 1997. After a chat at a party in Hong Kong for the changeover in 1997 with an old friend from England, who had started importing Chinese antiques into England, Alfred was recommended the possibility of importing into New Zealand.

Six months later, having returned to New Zealand with his wife and daughter, Alfred exhibited his first collection in Tauranga. Moving to Auckland a year later, having set up a company called Creative Imports NZ in Ellerslie, the company started gaining a reputation for high quality antiques and as the importers of the Margaret Muir bedlinen range.

The bedlinen range then became the company name, as Margaret Muir Design, for the next several years until 2007 when it was re-branded MMD Home. This was largely due to the fact that the bedlinen range had grown globally and there was some confusion with websites and searches.

The company now has a large showroom in Ellerslie, supplies leading retailers throughout New Zealand and is a preferred supplier for residential and commercial interior designers.

Unique to MMD Home is the Newton Range of furniture which allows clients to customize each piece by choosing the finish and type of inlay which allows for 49 different looks for the same piece. Modern, rustic, lacquered timbers can be mixed with stainless steel, concrete, rattan, to give an endless possibility of textures and finishes which give each piece a unique look within a common range.

MMD Home has been in business for a decade and is looking forward to expanding for another decade by offering its customers an endless flow of unique products and services.
